Supervisors should coach the communication, not just the documentation.
When Reviewing Cases, Supervisors Should Ask
- What did the client say was getting in the way?
- How did staff explain the benefit of the recommendation?
- Did the client understand the next step?
- Was the next action specific?
- What barrier still needs support?
- Did staff document the client's response?
- Does this need follow up or escalation?
Supervisors Should Look for Whether Staff Are
- Explaining services clearly.
- Identifying barriers.
- Reducing confusion.
- Avoiding shame based language.
- Staying within scope.
- Documenting client response.
- Following up on referrals and resources.
- Escalating concerns appropriately.
How Training Turns Into Daily Practice
A course does not change behavior by itself. Supervision, repetition, review, and accountability change behavior.
The Goal
The goal is not to make staff perfect. The goal is to make the communication consistent, ethical, and effective.
